Internationalization in retailing taking place in the 80s and 90s of the XX century was perceived as a chance for a dynamic growth, however by the tum of centuries it has become a real threat to many intemational retailers. The quantitative growth of foreign markets did not correspond to aspiration of achieving dominating position on them. As an effect, most retailers operate on a large number of markets with marginal position. Many of them have already made decision to withdraw from these markets where the expected effects were not achieved.
