The history of Herman, a young German who reacted only to the glitter of gold, and an elderly, rich woman originated in Boldino in 1833. Pushkin's novel contains the code of figures 2, 3 and 7, as well as connections with commedia dell'arte, and symbols of Harlequin and Pierrot. There is a similar phenomenon in Borys Akunin's novel entitled 'The Jack of Spades', where the Jack of Spades is a card of great importance. The analysis of characters' behaviours and colours accompanying them provides an interesting insight. Their reading through the tradition of a country comedy sheds a different light on the meaning of this work. It is very difficult to say authoritatively that Akunin decided to create a work referring to the concept and structure of Pushkin's 'The Queen of Spades'. It is possible that the code of commedia dell'arte appearing in 'The Jack of Spades' is unintentional.

'Little Tragedies' appeared when Pushkin realized that his plays would not exist on the stage. It was the autumn of 1830. Dramas from Boldino presented the human fate with reference to different epochs and national characters. The poet decided to expose people's feelings. He resolved to present some real characters not an anonymous crowd. Internal conflicts of a tragedy were very distinct, but the author did not aim at moral assessment and bringing a solution to light. He only showed tragic contradictions. Dramatic studies referred to commonly known myths and norms, but they were presented in a new way. Pushkin's dramatic miniatures contain glittering monologues presenting internal dilemmas of the protagonists and dialogues manifesting their latent needs and thoughts. Innovatory activities of Pushkin, the reformer of the Russian National Theatre, consisted in binding together his features as a dramatist and a theorist of theatre. His theatre combined attributes of extreme realism, exceptional simplicity, and absence of effects and methods of artistic acting.

Alexander Pushkin became interested in theatre and drama relatively early. His father was keen on the dramatic art, recited Moliere perfectly and in his living room theatre was often talked about in a presence and the future Russian poet. Already in secondary school Pushkin wrote his first theatrical plays and critical theses. At that time the poet's views on drama began to evolve, which can easily be seen in his later plays. Literary experts propose to divide the dramatic legacy of Pushkin into four periods. They are unanimous that the earliest pieces represent the staring point of the poet's creation. The second period is Boris Godunov, the third: 'little tragedies' and the fourth one: the last dramas.
