The article presents issues related to the use of water energy, hydropower potential and ways of its estimation. It was indicated that hydropower generally is considered to be a clean, safe and predictable source of energy. The influence of hydrological drought and possibilities of preventing its effects were analyzed. The paper includes a rating of energy security and economic viability of projects in hydropower plants during drought.

W artykule zostały zaprezentowane kwestie związane z energetyką wodną, potencjałem hydrologicznym i sposobami jego szacowania. Wskazano, że woda ogólnie uważana jest za czyste, bezpieczne i przewidywalne źródło energii. Przeanalizowano wpływ suszy hydrologicznej i możliwości zapobiegania jej skutkom. Artykuł zawiera ocenę bezpieczeństwa energetycznego oraz efektywności ekonomicznej projektów w elektrowniach wodnych w czasie suszy.
