Moc słowa. Możliwości identyfikowania wypowiedzi performatywnych w poradniczych praktykach

This articles discusses the power and significance of words and utterances which appear in formal and non-formal counselling practice. The author focuses on utterances which can have a performative, i.e. causative, character. Thereby, she draws on John Austin’s concept of speech acts and theories and philosophies of language, linguistics, sociolinguistics, ethnography and anthropology of speech, which address the power of language and its role in constructing and organising the social world. Counselling practice is examined as a specific, socially formed world in which utterances may effectively make things happen. Based on the analysis of the utterances of counsellors, therapists and counselees, four types of performative utterances are distinguished:1. Utterances conveying power and resolve to deal with difficulties2. Utterances expressing helplessness and vulnerability of counselees or counsellors3. Utterances as a symbolic weapon to fight against weakness4. Utterances as the language of institution.It is suggested that performative utterances in counselling practices appear as a certain procedure, an adopted/acknowledged custom or as a one-time original construct with a single addressee.

Celem artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na rolę i znaczenie słów oraz wypowiedzi, które pojawiają się w formalnej i nieformalnej poradniczej praktyce. Autorka koncentruje się na wypowiedziach, które mogą mieć charakter performatywny, a więc sprawczy. Odwołuje się do koncepcji Johna Austina, nawiązuje do tych naukowych refleksji, w których wyraźnie zaznaczana jest moc i rola, jaką odgrywa język w organizowaniu i konstruowaniu świata społecznego, a więc do teorii i filozofii języka, językoznawstwa, socjolingwistyki, etnografii, antropologii słowa. W artykule tym ukazany został obszar działań doradców jako szczególny, społecznie konstruowany świat, w którym wypowiedzi mogą stać się skutecznymi działaniami. Analiza wypowiedzi doradców, terapeutów, osób radzących się pozwoliła autorce na wyodrębnienie czterech typów wypowiedzi, które mają charakter performatywny: 1. wypowiedzi wskazujące na moc i wolę walki z trudnościami; 2. wypowiedzi kryjące bezsilność lub bezradność radzącego się lub doradcy; 3. wypowiedzi stanowiące symboliczną broń w walce z tym, co postrzegane jest jako słabość; 4. wypowiedzi będące językiem instytucji. W tekście tym wskazano, iż wypowiedzi performatywne w poradniczych praktykach pojawiają się jako swoista procedura, przyjęty/uznany zwyczaj bądź jako jednorazowa autorska konstrukcja, mająca czasami jednorazowego adresata.

Studia Poradoznawcze/Journal of Counsellogy is a journal published annually by the Naukowe Towarzystwo Poradoznawcze (Counsellogical Association). Eleven volumes have appeared since the launching of the Journal in 2012. This paper results from my immersionist exploration of the content of the papers published in the Journal, which resulted in the identification of three planes on which counselling studies inquiry has been carried out: the plane of counselling practices, the plane of counselling experience and the plane of ideas informing research on counselling. At the same time, my argument traces immersion processes in various research projects, which lean towards an anthropology of counselling, and also ponders whether a shift towards the notion of the counselling-seeking subject as an explicitly dominant agent triggers a performative turn in counselling and counselling studies.

Czasopismo Studia Poradoznawcze/Journal of Counsellogy wydawane przez Naukowe Towarzystwo Poradoznawcze, wychodzi od 2012 roku. Do tej pory wyszło jedenaście tomów. Ten tekst jest rezultatem imersjonistycznego wglądu w treść tekstów ukazujących się w Studiach. W jego wyniku autorka wyodrębnia trzy płaszczyzny, na których podejmowano poradoznawcze analizy: płaszczyznę poradniczej praktyki, płaszczyznę poradniczego doświadczenia oraz płaszczyznę idei. Tym samym z jednej strony identyfikuje procesy imersyjne w różnych projektach badawczych idących ku antropologii poradnictwa, z drugiej strony zastanawia się, czy zwrot w kierunku podmiotu radzącego się jako podmiotu sprawczego, działającego, który wyraźnie dominuje, prowadzi do performatywnego zwrotu w poradnictwie oraz w poradoznawstwie.

The article presented here is a result of a trio of opinions that arose during the period encompassing the Zakopane Conference on Adult Education (April 2011) and the Summer School for Young Researchers on Adult Education and Counselling (May 2011). Within the range of these scholarly events the authoresses tried to share their experiences on educating would-be consellors at the University of Zielona Góra. The resulting text is an attempt to describe over a dozen years of the authoresses’ experience in running didactic classes outside the university walls and driving traditional workshops out of lecture halls and into the space of a large city. Therefore, on the one hand, the authoresses make a brief presentation of their projects, while, on the other, subject them to academic reflection referring to the areas of professionalism and constructivism as understood nowadays. The article reveals changes in thinking about counsellors’ professional competencies, which may be observed both in practitioners’ statements and counselling reflection. The authoresses show educational possibilities provided by the use of performative etnography, and try to present the elaborate process in which counsellors can become reflective researchers of their own practice.
