From 1 982 the author conducted the conservation of frescos by F.A. Scheffler which constitute part of the painted decoration of the church in Jelenia Gora. The compositions include three main scenes and accompanying depictions. The western span contains the first part of the Resurrection series, while the scene behind the copula shows the Ascension. The last painting is located in the eastern span and portrays the Adoration of the Holy Trinity. Alltold, these compositions cover some 984sq metres and were executed with the technique of the damp fresco, directly onto the plaster. The damages of the object included dirt, powdering, flaking, rubbing, losses, repainted coates of paint, salination, water-produced smudges, destratification and the detachment of the plaster from the base, missing parts of rotten plaster and brick base as well as unprofessionally placed plaster putty. The programe foresaw full technical and aesthetic conservation. The painting was cleaned of all impurities and dust with bread erasers. Parts of the fresco were washed with a solution of bicarbonite of ammonium and methyl cellulose. The painting was grounded with a 2 -3 per cent solution of POW-Winacet R-50 in methanol, and a 2 -3 percent solution of Paraloid B-72 in toluene. Injections were made of 3 -2 5 per cent solution of POW-Winacet D -5 0 in water. Desalination involved pads of tissue paper soaked in destilled water. The old plaster putties were removed and losses in the plaster supplemented. The painting layer was reconstructed and Telens powder pigments were applied together with binding material. The conservation work which was completed in 1989, is documented with black-and-white photographs, colour slides an inventory of diagrams.
