The area of the river basin of the Marycha is part of the microregion of the Sejny Hillocks (the Podlaskie Voivodeship). The region to the south of Berżniki up to the locality of Stanowisko (AzP ‘Archeologiczne zdjęcie Polski - Archaeological Record of Poland’ 18-88, 18-89, 19-89) was also included in the discussed part of the river basin. Materials acquired during the survey and from the sites which were test excavated (Giby, Site 1; Giby, Site 2; Kiecie, Site 11) include Palaeolithic finds in their inventories, which testify to their pertinence to the Lyngby and the Swiderian Cultures. In Mesolithic materials there is a preponderance of finds which can be classified to the Kunda Cultural Circle. Alongside with rich inventories with “Kunda” finds, there are also single specimens related to the northern cultural circle.
