The aim of this article is to reflect on the unusual and extraordinary character of the August 1980 strike in Poland. The eighteen days of strike have profoundly influenced the history of Poland, of Europe and of the world. All the strike participants and many journalists and researchers stress that historic dimension. People who have not got a chance to witness that historic event may not understand its uniqueness. It cannot be fully explained in rational categories. Some journalists describe 'Solidarity' as a 'miracle'. This article tries to explain the extraordinary character of the August 1980 strike by analysing its ideas and values.

In all volumes of ANNALES. ETHICS IN ECONOMY there are several interesting papers about ethics of teaching in academic schools. The authoress writes about her own experience working with students in several schools. In description she uses the method of Job analysis, recommended by International Labour Organization in Geneva, the praxiology method of professor Kotarbinski and the very important Encyclical of John Paul II. She tries to prove the thesis that teaching ethics makes sense and gives results only when you as teacher convince students how valuable is honest work in their personal lives. Such a programme may be realized by well motivated teachers and well organized working process in the school.
