The reason for this bibliography was the 200th anniversary of the founding of German Studies at the University of Wrocław. The bibliography includes publications published in the period 1945– 2011. The list contains publications which originated in the Institute for German Studies and consider the problems of Scandinavian countries and their languages and cultures. They were listed in chronological-alphabetical order. An additional criterion is the character of the publication. First books are (monographs and academic textbooks) cited, then articles, reviews and translations.

This article shows the dynamics of changes in form and content of the Danish funerary inscriptions. The basis of the study is a corpus of 250 grave inscriptions from the period of 1770–2003 coming from Copenhagen cemetery Assistens Kirkegård. The study focuses on the changes within three parameters: standards of textuality, type of speech acts and the text function, and leads to the conclusion that the examined speech genre has suffered a significant transformation. Over time, gravestone epitaphs were becoming shorter, more schematic and anonymous. The observed changes are due to general changes in society and culture in particular, with different attitudes towards death: from the perception of death as “the death of another,” through the recognition of the religious meaning of life and death, to making it a taboo and removing from tombstones.

The subject of the analysis in this article are Danish word formations with the prepositions mellem ‘between’, over ‘above’ and under ‘under’, considered from the point of view of cultural linguistics. The forms studied represent a productive word formation model, therefore they include numerous semantic categories, and prepositions which constitute an element defining compounds show more semantic functions than the prepositional phrases generated by them. Semantic characteristics have allowed the following facts to be established. There are differences in the way and scope of perceiving reality and in its linguistic expression between the Danish and the Polish languages: compounds with mellem refer to those fragments of reality which are not linguistically expressed by the Polish language. Tokens with the prepositions over and under clearly show an anthropocentric nature, which is confirmed additionally by the deictic nature of some forms. Compounds with all prepositions perform transposition of spatial relations into abstract relations thanks to which they acquire a new function, that of assessing and evaluating exponents. The word formations discussed summa summarum result in a different, more detailed image of reality than in the Polish language.

The semantic structure of funerary inscriptions has a dual character. The onomastic-genealogial part is characterized by stereotypical forms of expression and performs a referential function. Its opposition, the emotive text-component, eulogy, is dominated by the function of self-expression, with noticeable linguistic elegance. The present article examines the use of rhetorical figures of repetition in the German funerary inscriptions dating from the period 1790–2010 and analyzes closely their poet-ic function. The study shows that the analyzed texts contain a lot of different rhetorical figures of repetition, which confirms the poetic function of the investigated genre.

The article focuses on the issue of bilingualism in Jewish headstone inscriptions. The research covers 100 texts which were created in the period of 1829–1949 and come from a Jewish cemetery in Ansbach in Bavaria. The research of their structure showed that bilingual versions concern various components of the text, more rarely entire texts, and are not actually translations. Furthermore, diachronic analysis allowed the research to confirm the slow expansion of the German language (from the mid-19th century) and limitation of use of the Hebrew language to the phrases beginning or ending the grave inscription (the 30s of the 20th century).

The contemporary teaching of foreign languages assumes the development of the ability to use a foreign language in different communication situations. Apart from language competence, also the cultural competence is developed as it is a necessary component of communication. A successful transfer of knowledge and language skills in the process of foreign language learning is determined by a textbook (in addition to other factors). The goal of this article is to analyze the content and assess three Danish textbooks, which were published in Germany in the years 2008-2010. The textbooks are examined in terms of knowledge about Danish life and institutions, the transfer of intercultural competence and the presence of stereotypes. The textbooks were studied based on the list of criteria and it resulted in stating that the textbooks fulfill the objective of providing the knowledge about the country to a great degree. The intercultural component and the issue of stereotypes are dealt with in a different manner.

This article analyses the standards of textuality (according to Beaugrande & Dressler 1981) of the Danish funerary inscriptions. The basis of the test is a corpus of 250 grave inscriptions arising in the period 1770-2003 from Copenhagen cemetery Assistens Kirkegård. The first part of the paper bases on the seven criteria of textuality: cohesion, coherence, intentionality, acceptability, informativity, situationality, and intertextuality. In the second part the study focuses on illocutionary structure and communicative functions and leads to the conclusion that the examined speech genre includes the most of the illocutionary speech acts: assertives, commissives, expressives and directives.

The paper deals with the role of multilingualism in selected text types. The reflections on forms of multilingualism and occasions for using multiple languages in a text lead to the creation of a typology that distinguishes between obligatory and optional use of multiple languages in text types. The obligatory multilingualism is constitutive in dictionaries, textbooks and teaching materials. Optional multilingualism, which was examined using the example of German advertising texts and grave inscriptions from Germany and Denmark, reinforces the main function of the text.

This paper presents results of a research study the objective of which was to analyse entries of Polish temporal propositions and their Danish equivalents. Having considered specific features of the examined class of words, the following three parameters were chosen as quality references: number of exemplary phrases, number of Danish preposition equivalents and order of examples given in the entry. Excerpts of dictionary articles were additionally compared with results of other translation confrontation.

Treścią artykułu jest przedstawienie strategii komunikacyjnych w nagłówkach prasowych o wojnie w Ukrainie w duńskim dzienniku „Politiken”. Badanie dotyczyło 26 nagłówków z dwóch działów tematycznych dziennika. Analiza porównawcza wykazała różnice w strukturze, organizacji informacji, użyciu środków stylistycznych, emotywnych oraz sposobie przedstawienia wojny. Kontrasty wynikają z przynależności tekstów do odmiennych gatunków prasowych: tekstów informacyjnych i publicystycznych. Połączenie obu typów tekstów linkami tworzy wewnętrzny mini-dyskurs i daje pełniejszy obraz przedstawianych wydarzeń.

The aim of the article is to present informative strategies applied in the headlines about the war in Ukraine in the Danish daily “Politiken”. The study covered 26 headlines from two thematic sections of the journal. A comparative analysis has showed differences in the structure and organization of information, the use of stylistic and emotive means, and the way the war is presented. The contrasts result from the fact that the texts belong to different press genres: informational or journalistic texts. Interconnecting them with hyperlinks creates an internal mini-discourse and gives a more complete picture of the presented events.

This paper deals with one of the typical features of Danish prepositions – building of phrases with the infinitive as a dependent. The analysis is based on a corpus consisting of 111 examples compiled from literary texts, it includes syntactical schemes with twelve primary prepositions and presents their syntactic functions and semantic characteristics. The discussed phrases are almost not present in the Polish syntax (there is only one preposition which builds this kind of phrases) therefore there are given translations to show potential equivalents in the target language.

The paper deals with the rendering of English personal proper names in the German translation of the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien The Lord of the Rings. The analysis includes the use of translation techniques and the evaluation of the choice of equivalents based on the equivalence theory of W. Koller. In the empirically determined translation strategies a consistent method for the choice of equivalents can be recognized. The exact imitation of the form (in both its structure and sound) and the preservation of semantic equivalence are undisputed benefits of this successful transla-tional performance.
