Polonika historyczne i prawno-polityczne w księgozbiorze syndyka gdańskiego Gotfryda Lengnicha (1689-1774)

Gotfryd Lengnich, gdański historyk i prawnik żyjący w XVIII w. pozostawił po sobie ponad czterotysięczny księgozbiór, który po jego śmierci został wystawiony na sprzedaż na dwóch licytacjach w lipcu i listopadzie 1774 r. Katalogi aukcyjne znajdują się w Bibliotece Państwowej w Berlinie – Fundacji Pruskiego Dziedzictwa Kulturalnego i są dostępne on-line. Ze względu na zainteresowania naukowe Lengnicha w bibliotece znajdowało się ok. 600 poloników, z czego większość to prace z zakresu historii, prawa i polityki. Analiza tego fragmentu księgozbioru Lengnicha wykazała, że syndyk stworzył sobie doskonały warsztat pracy, gromadząc dzieła większości najważniejszych autorów polskich i obcych piszących na temat historii i prawa Polski i Prus.

Gottfried Lengnich, a historian and lawyer who lived in Gdańsk in the 18th century left behind a collection of over 4,000 books. The collection was sold during two auctions in July and November 1774. Auction registers found in the State Library in Berlin – the Foundation of the Prussian Cultural Heritage – are available on-line. Owing to Lengnich’s academic interests, the collection includes 600 Polonicas, the majority of which are works concerning history, law and politics. The analysis of this fragment of Lengnich’s collection shows that it includes the majority of the most significant Polish and foreign authors writing about the history and law of Poland and Prussia.

Gottfried Lengnich, der Historiker und Syndikus der Stadt Danzig aus dem 18. Jahrhundert, hinterließ eine Büchersammlung mit über viertausend Büchern, die nach seinem Tode in zwei Auktionen im Juli und November 1774 versteigert werden sollten. Die Auktionskataloge befinden sich in der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin – Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz und sind auch online zugänglich. Wegen wissenschaftlicher Interessen Lengnichs befanden sich in seiner Bibliothek ca. 600 Polonica-Drucke, die meisten davon waren Abhandlungen im Themenfeld Geschichte, Recht und Politik. Die Analyse dieses Fragments des Bücherbestands Lengnichs bewies, dass der Syndikus eine perfekte Arbeitswerkstatt für sich schuf, indem er die Werke der meisten wichtigsten polnischen und fremden Autoren, die über die Geschichte und die Gesetzgebung Polens und Preußens schrieben, sammelte.

Cenzura w XVIII-wiecznej Francji, Indiach Brytyjskich i NRD w świetle nowej książki Roberta Darntona

Najnowsza książka R. Darntona została poświęcona cenzurze. Zamiarem badacza było pokazanie, jak w wybranych państwach o autorytarnym ustroju i w różnych przedziałach czasowych funkcjonowało kontrolowanie słowa drukowanego. Analizie porównawczej poddane zostało funkcjonowanie cenzury w następujących krajach: we Francji w XVIII stuleciu, w Indiach pod panowaniem brytyjskim w XIX stuleciu i w Niemczech Wschodnich w drugiej połowie XX w. Mimo że każdy z omawianych przypadków jest odmienny, można w nich znaleźć też wiele podobieństw.

The latest book by R. Darnton is devoted to censorship. The intention of the author was to show how, in selected countries with authoritarian political systems and at various times, the control of the printed word was executed. Comparative analysis was used to compare the functioning of censorship in the following countries: Bourbon France in the 18th century, British India in the 19th century and the German Democratic Republic in the second half of the 20th century. Each of these cases is different, but we can find there are many similarities.

Warszawscy księgarze i nakładcy na toruńskim rynku książki w drugiej połowie XVIII wieku

W artykule zostały przedstawione kontakty warszawskich księgarzy i wydawców z toruńskim rynkiem książki. O swojej ofercie informowali oni torunian za pośrednictwem miejscowych czasopism, w tym przede wszystkich „Thornische Wöchentliche Nachrichten und Anzeigen”. Ich kontakty z Toruniem przypadły na lata 60. i 70. XVIII w., na okres ożywienia kulturalnego w mieście. Swe książki w Toruniu oferowali: Wawrzyniec Mitzler de Kolof, Jan August Poser i Michał Gröll. W ich propozycjach zwraca uwagę przede wszystkim duża liczba książek polskojęzycznych, często przekładów z języka francuskiego oraz dzieła publikowane w języku francuskim i angielskim, w mniejszym stopniu niemieckim i po łacinie. Były to głównie książki współczesnych twórców, choć nie brakło też nowych edycji autorów żyjących w poprzednich stuleciach. Wśród książek przedstawionych toruńskim czytelnikom znalazły się publikacje o bardzo różnej treści: dzieła historyczne, medyczne, z zakresu prawa i filozofii oraz literatura piękna. Była to ciekawa oferta, stanowiąca uzupełnienie asortymentu księgarskiego miejscowych sprzedawców książek.

The article presents Warsaw booksellers’ and publishers’ activity on Toruń’s book market. They advertised their offer in Toruń’s local periodicals, mainly in “Thornische Wöchentliche Nachrichten und Anzeigen”. Their activity was noticeable especially in the 60s and 70s of the 18th century, a period of increased cultural prosperity in the town. Several notable Warsaw booksellers such as Wawrzyniec Mitzler de Kolof, Jan August Poser and Michał Gröll offered their books in Toruń. What is interesting, their offer covered mostly books in Polish, some of them being translations from French, and also books in French and English, with fewer publications in German and Latin. The books were mainly works of contemporary writers, however new editions of earlier works were also to be found. The book selection was varied and included such subjects as history, medicine, law, philosophy, but also fiction. This interesting offer was a valuable addition to the regular book assortment in Toruń.
