The article describes green areas with which the towns of the administrative province of Lodz are equipped. It covers a time horizon of 1975—1980. The comparative analysis performed by the author encompassed both the types and spatial structure of green areas in particular urban units. The green areas available in the town of Lodz are analyzed separately with allowances made for disproportions between particular residential districts. Finally, there are briefly outlined these problems which should receive more attention from the local authorities.

Ihe article aims at shedding some light on problems of management and organization of the local economy in the CSSR. A special attention has been paid to the system of people’s councils and to an internal organization of representative and executive organs due to differences existing here between Czechoslovakia and Poland. An amendment to the Law about the people’s councils was introduced in Czechoslovakia in 1982. Its main goal was to strengthen the position of the people’s councils of the basic level, The article tries to outline more important newly-obtained rights of the councils, and primarily those in relation to organizations managed by the people’s councils of higher levels and the Central organs. There are also briefly presented main changes occurring in the local policy concerning problems of the local economy controlled by the people’s councils of the basic level. The siZe of the present article allows only for a brief presentation of these problems and, thus, the article does not exhaust the whole subject.
