This paper discusses the presence of food-related phraseology in Italian football language and Italian football chronicles and its Polish functional equivalents. The study demonstrates the significance of the relation between contrastive linguistics and applied phraseology as brodino and mozzarella have more than one functional equivalent in Polish. Brodino can be translated as strzał tylko do statystyk, zbyt lekki strzał, zbyt lekki strzał w sam środek bramki and mozzarella as niesatysfakcjonujący remis, niedosyt, ciężkostrawny podział punktów, zwycięstwo potrzebne z uwagi na trudną sytuację w tabeli, trzy cenne punkty. As the author indicates, the presence of food-related phraseological units in Italian football terminology proves that culture-related aspects are crucial to master the target language. Hence, the role of such terminology in transla-tion of specialist and journalistic texts and the role of phraseological competences in the process of foreign language teaching should be highly important in educational processes.

The aim of the present paper is to present some of the rules and tendencies in word formation in Modern Italian (on the example of noun compounding). In the last few years we could observe the strong interest in issues pertaining to word formation, lexicon and the so-called mental lexicon in Modern Italian. The article includes questions related to the rules of word formation which are productive in Modern Italian. In the paper also the lexical creativity and the role of the uses of the language in the process of word formation are discussed. Additionally, the author analyzes the productivity of the rules of word formation in Modern Italian and Italian nominal lexicon.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie zagadnienia reguł słowotwórczych we współczesnym języku włoskim, dotyczących compositów nominalnych. Publikacja jest próbą ukazania, jak istotną rolę w powyższym procesie odgrywa kompetencja użytkownika. W artykule zawarliśmy podsumowanie podejść do zagadnienia reguł słowotwórczych dotyczących produktywnych typów compositów nominalnych we współczesnej włoszczyźnie. Centralną kwestią rozważań jest produktywność omawianych reguł słowotwórczych.

Nel presente articolo la nostra attenzione sarà focalizzata principalmente sul lessico dell’italiano contemporaneo e nella fattispecie sulle regole di formazione dei lessemi. Ci concentreremo pertanto sul concetto di creatività lessicale dei singoli utenti della lingua e su quello di competenza dei parlanti nel capire, nel decifrare i composti nuovi riscontrati. Di pari passo con la decodifica andrà, come osserveremo, la capacità di creare i composti nuovi sui modelli già conosciuti. In séguito ci occuperemo della morfologia lessicale e di regole di formazione dei lessemi nell’italiano contemporaneo, nonché della loro produttività.
