In 2021, Pope Francis amended can. 230 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law, pursuant to which the ministries (ministeria) of lector and acolytes are no longer reserved exclusively for men. This paper deals with the secular nature of these ministries, both in the context of their origins and contemporary understanding. Until the reform of Pope Paul VI in 1972, both ministries had been minor orders, conferred only on candidates for priestly ordination. In the process of declericizing these ministries, Pope Francis's decision goes further, because now both ministries can be entrusted not only to lay men but also to lay women. Consequently, the theology of those ministries should be revised, as they are grounded in the common priesthood of the laity, and not - as before - in the hierarchical priesthood.

W roku 2021 papież Franciszek dokonał nowelizacji kan. 230, § 1 Kodeksu prawa kanonicznego, na mocy której posługi (ministeria) lektora i akolity przestały być zarezerwowane wyłącznie dla mężczyzn (Franciszek 2021b). Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie zagadnienia świeckiego charakteru tych posług, zarówno w kontekście ich genezy, jak i współczesnego rozumienia. Do reformy przeprowadzonej przez papieża Pawła VI w roku 1972 obie posługi były święceniami niższymi, których udzielano wyłącznie kandydatom do święceń kapłańskich. W procesie deklerykalizacji tych posług decyzja papieża Franciszka idzie dalej, ponieważ obecnie można obie posługi powierzać nie tylko świeckim mężczyznom, ale także świeckim kobietom. W konsekwencji rewizji należy poddać teologię tych posług, które znajdują uzasadnienie w kapłaństwie wspólnym laikatu, a nie - jak było dotąd - w kapłaństwie hierarchicznym.

The article shows the profiles of the seven blessed of the Archdiocese of Poznań, and passages from their memoirs. The author tries to discover the timeless features of the secular model of sanctity in the hagiographies of Edmund Bojanowski, Czesław Jóźwiak, Franciszek Kęsy, Edward Kaźmierski, Jarogniew Wojciechowski, Edward Klinik and Natalia Tułasiewiczówna. The article shows ineach of the seven biographies the path of gradual maturation in faith embedded in the historical context of events crucial for Poland. A common feature of all the characters is their strong commitment to the cause of education and patriotism based on a solid religious and moral foundation.
