Автор, спираючись на власний досвід дружнього спілкування з науковцем та окремі джерела, подає цікаві біографічні факти, розповідає про життєві й наукові пріоритети, найважливіші проекти одного з найвидатніших україністів у Росії. Опис життєвого й наукового шляху В. Чумаченка окреслює також загальний стан українського етносу на Кубані, зокрема його культурний стан й перспективи розвитку.

The article is devoted to V. Chumachenko as the philologist (literary scientist), historian and encyclopedist. The author, based on his own experience in communicating with V. Chumachenko as the one of the most prominent russian experts in Ukrainian studies as well on some sources, presents interesting biographical facts, tells about the life and scientific priorities, the most important projects of him. The general condition of the Ukrainian ethnos in the Kuban, in particular its cultural status and prospects of development is described by presentation of V. Chumachenko life and scientific ways.

У статті показано, що в «Енциклопедії Сучасної України» у статтях про вчених є тенденція висвітлювати інші, окрім наукового, види діяльності персоналій. У зв’язку з цим простежено основні проблеми, що виникають у процесі подання інформації про особу, яка відома не лише науковою, а й іншою діяльністю (суспільною, громадсько-політичною, мистецькою, літературною, спортивною тощо). Часто цей бік діяльності науковця залишається осторонь уваги укладачів енциклопедичних видань, особливо галузевих. Звернено увагу на особливості подання інформації в статті-персоналії залежно від характеру реалізації особи в кількох галузях життєдіяльності.

In Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine, in articles about scientists there is a tendency to cover other activities, in which they have manifested themselves in addition to scien­ce. In this regard, the study traces the main problems that arise in the preparation of an article information when a person is submitting in science as well as in other activities (social activity, policy, art, literature, sports, etc.). Biographical information in articles about scientists depends on their implementation level in several areas of life.

2020 marks the 95th anniversary of Petro Rotach who is the famous Ukrainian writer from Poltava region. But his life way was ended in 2007. This article is devoted to the description of Petro Rotach’s main achievements in humanities like literary studies, local lore studies, encyclopedia publishing, in which he made significant contributions.

Нині світ перебуває на тій стадії еволюційного розвитку цивілізації, у якій інформація та знання стають основоположними продуктами виробництва. Збільшення ролі інформації й знань в житті суспільства, які поширюються в інтернет-просторі, актуалізує проблеми цифрової освіченості (грамотності / компетенції) людей. У цьому дослідженні на окремому прикладі, пов’язаному з пандемією коронавірусної інфекції в період 2019–2020 ро­ків, показано значення онлайн-енциклопедій у процесі формування цифрової освіченості. Проаналізувавши статті на тему COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, які подають національні енциклопедії Європи (й України зокрема), зроблено висновок про інертність енциклопедичних знань і невисоку їх практичну цінність для переважної більшості населення з точки зору поведінки й рішень під час пандемії. У цьому контексті вирізняється «Вікіпедія», пропонуючи значно більший масив довідкових даних, зокрема й тих, що зазвичай не властиві класичним енциклопедіям, однак корисні для читачів.

Today, humans have the phase of the social organization evolution, in which information, communication technologies, and knowledge are fundamental objects of production, as well as the digital environment is an important space for the development of society. There are problems of people’s digital literacy actualized by the increasing role of the existing and growing in information and knowledge in society from Internet environment. This study illustrates the issue of getting digital literacy using online encyclopedic resources on the case about informing the pandemic of coronavirus disease COVID-19 worldwide in 2019-2020. Based on analysis of the mentioned virological topic articles of the national encyclopedias of Europe (Britannica, Brockhaus, Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine, Great Norwegian Encyclopedia, Wikipedia, etc.) the conclusion is made that encyclopedic knowledge is inert and during the pandemic, it has a low practical role for the needs of humans in the context of safe behavior and right decisions. However, Wikipedia differs from other national online encyclopedias by offering much more information including that is not commonly found in classical encyclopedias, but is useful to readers.
