Latem 1920 r. w obliczu zagrożenia państwa w wielu miejscowościach powstały ochotnicze Straże Obywatelskie, wspierające wojsko i policję w utrzymaniu porządku i bezpieczeństwa. Podobna formacja powstała w Płocku. Poza statutowymi zadaniami członkowie Straży wzięli też udział w obronie miasta przed wojskami bolszewickimi, a po odparciu nieprzyjaciela w przywracaniu porządku i zbieraniu porzuconego mienia i wyposażenia wojskowego. Na przełomie września i października 1920 r. Straż Obywatelska na terenie całego kraju – w tym w Płocku - została rozwiązana. Kilku najbardziej zasłużonych członków zostało odznaczonych Krzyżami za Męstwo i Odwagę i Krzyżami Walecznych.

In the summer of 1920, voluntary civic guard troops were formed in order to protect Polish towns from the threat coming from the east. They provided support to army and police in keeping order and security. A similar formation was established in Płock. Apart from its statutory tasks, members of the Civic Guard also took part in the defense of the city against Bolsheviks, and having repelled the enemy they participated in restoring order and in collecting the abandoned property and military equipment. At the turn of September and October 1920, the Civic Guard was dissolved around the country, including Płock. Several of the most distinguished members were decorated with the Cross for Bravery and Courage and the Cross of Valour.
