The role of the Commodity Exchange in development of agricultural futures market in Poland has been presented in this article. The research has been based on the agricultural futures transactions at the Commodity Exchange in Warsaw and Poznan. Agricultural market system in the UE has had many institutions granting security to the commodity trade participants. This already existing system could be a model for the Polish commodity market. The decision to develop agricultural future market in Poland has to result from negotiation including all the groups of market actors. The acceptance of agricultural futures trading should be the basis for the future commodity market structure in Poland. Other parts of the system should resemble other commodity trading - the regional commodity exchanges, the wholesale business and retails. Agricultural producers, trading companies, commercial banks and insurance companies by their brokers could buy and sell futures contracts to obtain better price. Thanks to agricultural futures trade organised by the Commodity Exchange, there are many possibilities for buyer or seller to choose the suitable strategy. It is possible to choose the hedging transactions and protect the expected price or to speculate. This article presents the current development of Polish Commodity Exchanges and the possible rise in the agricultural futures trading adding statistics supporting the final conclusions.
