Clarifying Anthroposophy's amenability to scientific scholarship must first deal with the issues of esoterism in Steiners work on the one hand, which cannot be proven according to scientific means, and with the scientifically unpopular issue of essentialism on the other. A scientific approach to Anthroposophy is to be found in Steiner's epistemogical basic writings, which have been taken up by the philosopher Herbert Witzenmann and developed into anthropologically substantiated conceptualizations of free will and spirit. This too is very difficult to communicate in the contemporary discourse. A medium-term solution to this dilemma may be to focus on outlining and applying criteria for dealing with Anthroposophy on a scholary basis rather than on providing proof of its scientific validity. Such criteria are: historic and systematic contextualizations of Anthroposophy, critical interrogation of Rudolf Steiner's statements, systemization, explicit delineation and rationalization.

The moment when in 1912 Russian modernist Andrei Bely met Austrian occultist Rudolf Steiner was very important for the writer's further output. Bely decided to join The Anthroposophical Society and became one of the closest students of the Doctor (as the antrhoposophists called Rudolf Steiner). It defined the subject of Bely's works and marked one of the possible interpretation keys of his novels. In this article the authoress looks into 'Masks' (the second part of Moscow duology) in the context of eurythmy, ie 'visible speech', created by Steiner and his wife Marie von Sivers. Characteristic movements of the novel's heroes and repeated sequences of pronounced syllables form coded gnostic-anthroposophical scheme of the adept's initiation, ie show the way from the darkness into light.
