W pracy przypomniano okoliczności powstania w 1935 r. w Wolnym Mieście Gdańsku Państwowej Akademii Medycyny Praktycznej. W pierwszych 5 latach program nauczania Akademii ograniczał się tylko do dwóch semestrów klinicznych. W 1940 r., po reorganizacji i rozbudowie uczelni, przemianowano ją na Medizinische Akademie Danzig (MAD), gdzie możliwe były pełne studia medyczne, uzyskanie doktoratu i habilitacji. Przedstawiono losy MAD do 1945 r. oraz życiorysy wszystkich profesorów Akademii z lat 19351945. Wielu nich było wybitnymi lekarzami i naukowcami, którzy po wojnie z powodzeniem kontynuowali swoją pracę i karierę w Niemczech lub za granicą.

In the paper the circumstaces of founding of State Academy of Practical Medicine in the year 1935 in Free Town Gdańsk are remembered. In the fi rst 5 years it was possible to absolve only two clinical semesters at the Academy. In the year 1940, aft er reorganization and extension, it was renamed in Medizinische Akademie in Danzig (MAD), where complete medicine study, doctor graduation and habilitation are feasible. Th e destiny of MAD until 1945 and the biographies of all professors of Academy from the years 1935-1945 are descibed. Many of this professors were signifi cant physicians and scientists, who aft er the war continued being successful in their work and career in Germany or abroad.
