Death of the family members or friends and acquaintances, has always been an extraordinary, notable and memorable event. Death was present in the memoirs and diaries, in which we find many descriptions of death of the relatives and friends as well as the funeral ceremonies. Memoirists expressed in them their feelings when confronted with the death of loved ones and friends. Diaries and correspondence much better than mournful speeches and eulogies show contributors’ attitude to death. Openly and honestly give a convincing evidence of human feelings. This article analysis feeling described in the diary of Michał Kazimierz Radziwiłł known as ’Rybeńko‘ (1702–1762), the governor of Vilnius and Lithuanian Grand Hetman. As a reference point for considerations served note of 23rd December 1746, including information on the death of his mother, Anna Katarzyna Radziwiłł, née Sanguszko (1676–1746), wife of the great Lithuanian Chancellor. Radziwiłł reveals in his diary attitudes towards death mainly of relatives. It shows not only how to "feel a death” in the context of everyday life, but also reveals the multi-faceted relations occurring in Nieśwież between the living and the dead. Author describes Radziwiłł’s attitude to death and the afterlife, as well as, the extent to which death ritual had impact on strengthening social and ancestral ties. Analyzing the homogenous source material, which is the diary, the author tried to capture what Michał Kazimierz Radziwiłł was thinking about death and dying beyond the message directly written by him.

This text is a contribution to the history of the Radziwiłł Family archives in Nieśwież into which were added archival records gathered in Biała village. The basis for the description of the archives in Biała village were commands of Anna Katarzyna Radziwiłł, née Sanguszko (1676–1746) issued in September and October 1736. At that time it was decided to displace the archives. The decisions taken at that time were source of knowledge on the holdings of the archives in Biała, state of the records elaboration and employees. The Greater Library (Latin), and most of the archives belonging to the entail Nieśwież and Ołyka were transported to Nieswież with the exception of records that were needed for the current administration of goods of Anna Katarzyna Radziwiłł and her younger son, Hieronim Florian Radziwiłł (1715–1760). Year 1736 was significant for the history of the Radziwiłł Family archives as it was when a new building of the archive and library was opened in Biała village by order of Anna Katarzyna Radziwiłł.

The paper discusses the artistic setting of funerary ceremonies mounted by Michael Casimir ‘Rybeńko (Little Fish)’ Radziwiłł as exequies of James Louis Sobieski (son of John III) in Żółkiew in 1743 and the funeral of Anna Katarzyna Radziwiłł née Sanguszko held in Nieśwież in 1747. The decorations of both ceremonies, ranked among the most sumptuous in the 18th-century Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, have not as yet been thoroughly discussed in the literature on the topic, despite standing out as examples of the architectural castrum doloris, a rare type in Poland. Both catafalques designed by Antonio Castelli and Maurizio Pedetti respectively, referring to the form of the Roman Baroque tempietto, remain genuine and important examples of late Baroque European funerary art.

Oba katafalki, których twórcami byli Antonio Castelli i Maurizio Pedetti, nawiązując do formy rzymskiego barokowego tempietta, pozostają oryginalnymi i ważnymi przykładami europejskiej późnobarokowej sztuki funeralnej.
