Osią artykułu są instalacje Anny Królikiewicz. Proste rytuały codzienności, związane z przygotowywaniem i dzieleniem się posiłkiem, zmienia ona w rytuały sztuki. Artystka „lokuje pamięć w żołądku,” jej sztuka stanowi laboratorium, w którym badane są relacje pomiędzy pamięcią a jedzeniem. Jej metodą jest synestetyczne przenoszenie wrażeń z jednego obszaru pobudzenia na inne. Dzięki smakom i zapachom artystka stara się przywrócić pamięć przeszłych sytuacji, miejsc i osób. Żywa niegdyś egzystencja przyjmuje u Królikiewicz postać sensualnych śladów, które prowadzą widzów do dawnego Sopotu i Gdańska.

The axis of this article consists of installations by Anna Królikiewicz, who changes simple everyday rituals connected with the preparation and sharing of meals into art rituals. The artist “locates memory in the stomach” and her artworks constitute a laboratory examining relations between memory and eating. The Królikiewicz method involves a synaesthetic transmission of impressions from one domain of arousal to another. By means of flavours and aromas the artist tries to restore the memory of past situations, places, and persons. In the Królikiewicz oeuvre once living existence assumes the form of sensual traces leading the viewers to Sopot and Gdańsk of the past.

The main aim of the article is to analyse the uniqueness of taste experience and its presence in contemporary art. Ephemerality of the sensual experience becomes an important challenge for researchers, art historians, and conservators. The article concentrates on the various aspects of experiencing taste, its place in aesthetics and different ways in which artists engage this sense in their works. The analysis is focused on artworks and performances of two Polish artists: Anna Królikiewicz and Oskar Dawicki. What remains as the taste vanishes? How to “preserve” taste? Why contemporary artists concentrate on non-visual senses? Those are the main issues raised in the article.
