The aim of the article is to present phenomena connected with the book market in Bydgoszcz, as described in address books from the years 1855-1917. As administrative documents, address books contained accurate data relating to different aspects of social life. Registers included in them give information about citizens’ occupations, among them printers, bookbinders and booksellers; companies and their locations, for example presses, bookshops, bookbinderies, lending libraries, music reading rooms, lithography workshops, photographic studios, engravers; published press; illustrations, musicalia and the writing materials trade. Moreover, they mention libraries, associations of book lovers, and other associations with their own book collections. There were many advertisements of libraries’ offerings, press equipment, lithography workshops’ services, rules for using lending libraries, etc., which we consider a great source. In conclusion, address books, as a precious and rich source of information, should be used more often in bibliographical research.

Publishing the book series is one of the strategy which could be accepted by a publisher when considering series of scripts combined with common range. Year 1989, when Polish economy has transferred to free-market system, was a time when Polish book market has been liberated as well. In these circumstances we could have observed multiplicity of published editions, there were many various publications which have been much more difficult to classify than in the past years. Above article is trying to analyze three publishing series: 'Klasyka mniej znana', 'Literatura i Kultura Popularna', 'Acta Universitatis Wratislaviensis'. First one is literary edition, second one is sort of scientific edition and last one is appeared as an unique research edition which has been advertising periodically in volumes.

Burinist Johann Blaschke, born in Bratislava and professionally active in Vienna, contributed to a series of publications, popularizing contemporary literature together with editions of antique literature on mythology, art or history. Facts from the artist's work and life - especially those on relationship between illustrators and publishers - indicate that book illustration at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries is relevant not only to art historians but also to those who research the book market of the epoch.
