In sources from the area of the former Polish-Lithuanian-East Slavic borderland (16th-17th centuries), alongside dithematic anthroponymic combinations the presence has been noted of trithematic formulas characteristic of Eastern Slavic anthroponymy and used to identify nobility (for example, Pawel Stanislawowicz Pietraszewicz, Jan Janowicz Kapusta, Teodor Hrehorowicz Bohuslawski). Particularly popular was combination with -ski, the result of spreading Polonization. In the area which found itself in the borderlands of the Crown after the Union of Lublin (Podlasie), the trithematic model turned out to be a transitional phenomenon.
