Praca przedstawia wydarzenia w Syrii, które miały swój początek w marcu 2011 roku i były następstwem Arabskiej Wiosny w Tunezji i Egipcie. Kiedy kolejne rewolucje ogarniały poszczególne kraje arabskie, wydawało się, że dni syryjskiego reżimu są policzone. Jednak, ku zaskoczeniu obserwatorów, gdy fala protestów przechodziła przez Kair, Tunis, Algier czy Trypolis, Damaszek wciąż pozostawał spokojny. Autorka pokazuje, dlaczego reżim syryjski, mimo pozornych podobieństw do swego egipskiego czy tunezyjskiego odpowiednika, wciąż utrzymuje się przy władzy. Wskazuje na istotne składniki w strukturze samego systemu, pozycję Syrii w regionie, jak również na otoczenie międzynarodowe, które sprawiają, że budowane przez 40 lat imperium Asadów ma szansę przetrwać.

The paper presents the events in Syria, which began in March 2011 and was the consequence of the Arab Spring in Tunisia and Egypt. When the next revolution swept over various Arab countries, it seemed that the days of the Syrian regime are numbered. However, to the surprise of observers, the wave of protests passed Cairo, Tunis, Algiers and Tripoli, but Damascus still remained calm. The author shows why the Syrian regime, in spite of the apparent similarities with the Egypt and Tunisia, still remain in power. Points to the important components in the structure of the system itself, the position of Syria in the region, as well as the international environment, which makes that 40 years old empire of Asad has a chance to survive.
