Faculty of Polish Philology at Grodno University is the first and so far the only one in the system of higher education in Belarus. It was established in 1989. The organiser of the faculty and its longlasting director was professor Swietlana Musijenko – tireless and enthusiastic researcher of Zofia Nałkowska’s works. She also put a lot of effort into organising a museum of the writer. Establishing the faculty was supported by the Polish consulate in Grodno and Polish educational authorities. Besides prof. Musijenko’s students who after graduating from the faculty remained here as lecturers there are also specialists from Poland. Belorussian students undergo their training in Poland. In 1994 the first students graduated from the faculty and doctoral studies have been conducted since 1992. Research workers and postgraduate students conduct their individual and team research and are authors of numerous publications. There have been about one hundred substantial works published so far. The faculty excels at organising seminars and conferences including international ones. Currently there are 15 employees – research workers and lecturers.
