Streszczenie Artykuł dotyczy oceny bezpieczeństwa w ruchu drogowym na terenie województwa lubuskiego w dobie przystąpienia Polski do Unii Europejskiej i Układu z Schengen oraz propozycji rozwiązań zapewniających bezpieczeństwo na drogach publicznych. Przedstawiono w nim wyniki analizy stanu bezpieczeństwa w latach 2002÷2007 oraz wskazano główne przyczyny i okoliczności wypadków w województwie lubuskim, z uwzględnieniem wpływu, jaki na ten stan wywiera odbywający się w naszym regionie ruch transgraniczny oraz fakt przystąpienia Polski do Unii Europejskiej. Dokonano także diagnozy stanu bezpieczeństwa w pierwszych tygodniach po wstąpieniu do Strefy Schengen. Zwrócono w nim także uwagę na podstawowe kierunki działań profilaktycznych, zapewniających bezpieczeństwo na drogach.

The article concerns the assessment of road traffic safety in the Lubuskie Voivodeship at the time of Poland's accession to the European Union and the Schengen Agreement and the proposed solutions to ensure safety on public roads. It presents the results of the safety analysis in 2002-2007 and indicates the main causes and circumstances of accidents in the Lubuskie Voivodeship, taking into account the impact of the cross-border traffic taking place in our region and the fact of Poland’s accession to the European Union. The security situation was also diagnosed in the first weeks after joining the Schengen Area. It also highlights the basic directions of preventive actions ensuring road safety.

Celem analizy jest porównanie bezpieczeństwa w ruchu drogowym w po-szczególnych województwach. Zmiennymi branymi pod uwagę są: liczba wypadków, liczba zabitych oraz rannych w tych wypadkach, liczba ujawnionych przypadków kierowania pojazdami po użyciu alkoholu oraz liczba ujawnionych przypadków kierowania pojazdami w stanie nietrzeźwości. Podstawowa hipoteza badawcza mówi, że stan bezpieczeństwa na polskich drogach ulega ciągłej poprawie. Oprócz zbadania dynamiki zmian zdarzeń drogowych w poszczególnych województwach oraz w całym kraju, autor pogrupował województwa, w których sytuacja bezpieczeństwa w ruchu drogowym jest podobna.

The aim of the analysis is a comparison of traffic safety in particular voivodships in Poland. The variables taken into account are: the number of accidents, the number of killed and injured in these accidents, the number of discovered cases of driving after using alcohol and the number of discovered cases of driving under the intoxication. The main hypothesis of the research is that the security situation on the Polish roads is improving. The author has examined both the dynamics of traffic incidents in each voivodships and across the country, and grouped the voivodships in which the security situation on the roads developed similarly.
