In an accessible form, the book presents pro les and activities of ten Białystok voivodes hol- ding o ce between 1919 and 1944. Based on their biographies, the militarization of admini- stration in Poland after 1926 is apparent. The publication is a valuable study of representatives of the regional power elite (o cial elite), their political choices and their fate after the end of the war in a country dominated by the communist party.
