Wiesław Bieńkowski (1926-1999), by education historian and sociologist, was the author of many works, mainly on the history of Kraków in the nineteenth century and the history of ethnography. His publications also concerned biographies. He also added to the history of the bibliography, first and foremost as the editor of the current Bibliografii historii polskiej – Bibliography of Polish history (1968-1999). He was also the author of historical bibliographies, studies on the history of bibliography, reviews of Polish and foreign bibliographies.

Wiesław Bieńkowski (1926-1999) z wykształcenia historyk i socjolog, był autorem wielu prac, głównie dotyczących dziejów Krakowa w XIX w. oraz z zakresu historii etnografii. Dużo miejsca w jego twórczości zajmowała biografistyka. Wpisał się też w dzieje bibliografii, przede wszystkim jako redaktor bieżącej Bibliografii historii polskiej (w latach 1968-1999). Był ponadto autorem bibliografii historycznych, opracowań dotyczących dziejów bibliografii, recenzji bibliografii polskich i zagranicznych.
