The problem of certification in the field of public procurement especially in relation to building materials and their suppliers is discussed in the paper. Regulation in force allow the contracting authority to verify whether the materials supplier is able to provide the required quality supply. The results of the author's analyses of the announcements about construction works as well as construction materials deliveries indicate that the contracting authority rarely use this option. In the paper there is presented an example of the delivery inspection in the case when the supplier possesses the voluntary certification and when he does not have it on the basis of PN-EN 1917:2004 "Concrete manholes and inspection chambers, unreinforced, steel fibre and reinforced". The example shows that the cooperation with a certified supplier is beneficial to both parties of the contract.
