In connection with the worldwide financial crisis, new trends occurring in the socioeconomic development processes of countries are being noticed in the last years. In article, The article presents dilemmas, threats and challenges for regional development in Poland in the aspect of the global crisis.

In the process of creating the most competitive knowledge-based economy the European academic institutions have to fulfill the important role. By carrying out that responsibility they can make profit on resources they possess. Universities are those places where knowledge is not only discovered, but moreover interpreted. Above all, the knowledge is the key asset of every learning organization. The mission of the academic institutions encompasses not only conducting research and passing new knowledge through teaching, but furthermore contributing to the regional development. That last task isn't an easy one, particularly when we compare it with the challenges faced by the higher education system in XXI century, such as globalization of educational services or tailoring the didactic offer to the market needs, to name but a few. That and other related issues constitute an axis of the presented article.

Until now in Poland, entrepreneurship - as an obligatory subject in the teaching programme - has been introduced only in secondary schools. There aren't general rules about entrepreneurship's education in higher education. The results of research show that most of classes related to entrepreneurship issues are offered in the curriculums of business-oriented faculties, in private universities. The biggest gap in that field is in curriculums of humanistic and exact sciences faculties. There is a great need of activities developing entrepreneurship in Polish higher education. One of the ways can be introducing entrepreneurship as an obligatory subject in curriculums of different faculties and different levels of studies. There is also a need of academic teachers support system creation.

Family is a basic social group in which a human being lives and functions. As any other group existing in society, family is susceptible to the influence of media including the Internet. In the era of widespread informatisation of society, one can often observe an increase of family life's co-existence in the virtual reality. Family cannot stay indifferent towards the constantly developing Internet or virtual space created by it. The family existing and functioning in the World Wide Web receives significant opportunities resulting from staying in that reality. However, there are also numerous threats constituting hazards and serious difficulties in the functioning of the family in that net. Together with the opportunities and the threats, there are certain challenges to family is able to exist and function on purely family-oriented values such as love, honesty and trust.
