The paper deals with the problem of subjective well-being. Two basic approaches to subjective well-being (bottom-up and top-down) are introduced and briefly characterized. The existing knowledge concerning the relationship of values and goals, two of the top-down factors, is analyzed in the paper. The attention is paid subsequently to the relationships of values and subjective well-being, and goals and subjective well-being. The arguments for the propositions that will be empirically examined are presented. These propositions are: 1) values influence the choice of goals, 2) congruency and incongruency of values and goals bear relationship to subjective well-being.
