The author intends to map the Operation Krkonoše (implemented by the tank divisions of Czechoslovak People’s Army in the first decade of December 1980 in relation to the “Polish Crisis”) and through analysis of the controversial aspects to grip its meaning, which provokes questions about its background until this day. He tries to uncover the whole context in a different perspective than before and point out, on the specific aspects, that it might not have been a case of potential military intervention and that the manoeuvres themselves were of formal nature and a camouflage focus. This is largely the summary of information from the mediated and secondary archival sources, since a majority of the primary archival materials was shredded deliberately. The main mediated source (providing archival documents in processed form) comes from the Investigative Commission of the Deputies of the Parliament CR (investigating the Operation in 1993 - 1995) and The Office of the Documentation and the Investigation of the Crimes of Communism, which has amended the investigation file. The secondary source is represented by the supplementary funds from the military administrative archives in Prague or Olomouc and the Prague National Archive.

The uniform type 60 marked a breakthrough in the soldier’s clothing. This was the first type of camouflage pattern introduced in the Czechoslovak People’s Army (ČSĽA). Along with the ČSĽA, the uniform was also worn by the Army of the Ministry of the Interior and the People’s Militia. The uniform became the symbol of the compulsory military service as well as the Army itself. Our paper is aimed at explaining the origin of the uniform, to describe its pattern and to briefly explain the individual components belonging to it. At the same time, the aim is also to mention the various exceptions that have been discovered when examining the different parts of the uniform.

The study is aimed at introducing the short, less than 5 years lasting existence of the 73rd Infantry. This is a unit existing from 1949 to 1954, which has been almost forgotten. The author describes the task of the Infantry, in particular to prepare a sufficient cadre of soldiers who were to be assigned the intelligence and preparatory tasks in the rear of the enemy troops after the outbreak of armed conflict in Europe. He also outlined its structure, pointing out to the complications and conflict of competencies between the intelligence and counterintelligence, which had a negative impact on the very functioning of the unit. In the first period, the soldiers were also suffering due to poor material equipment and the fact that the applicants for service could have been chosen only from among the trainees of exploratory courses may be considered as a great disadvantage of the unit. Later on, the unit was no longer subject only to the Intelligence Department of the General Staff and thereby its background, security and replenishment have improved. Even in spite of that, its members, including the commanders, were not able to meet the expectations and the soldiers, in some cases, had troubles with demonstrating basic skills. Probably due to poor results of inspections, the unit was cancelled in 1954. Later on, similar units were established within the Czechoslovak People’s Army. The study itself works only as a more comprehensive probe into the issue. Its incompleteness is obvious from the documentation studied, which is apparently caused by relatively extensive shredding of documents of the General Staff Intelligence Department during its whole existence as well as insufficient interest in the archival records of the former military intelligence after 1989.
