Podejmowanie i prowadzenie działalności gospodarczej związane jest z ponoszeniem kosztów, które są przedmiotem zainteresowania menedżerów. W dłuższym okresie problemy związane z kosztami są zazwyczaj spowodowane czynnikami o charakterze strategicznym. Dlatego ważnym obszarem zainteresowań rachunkowości zarządczej jest kształtowanie się kosztów na tle procesu kreowania wartości. Tym obszarem jest strategiczne zarządzanie kosztami, ukierunkowane na strategię przywództwa kosztowego. Artykuł niniejszy ukazuje rolę zarządzania kosztami jako instrumentu wspomagającego tworzenie i realizację strategii przedsiębiorstwa.

Undertaking and running business activities is connected with incurring costs which are managers’ focus of interest. In the long term problems connected with costs are usually caused by factors of strategic character. This is why an important area of interest is creation of costs in terms of the process of creating value. This area is strategic cost management, aimed at the strategy of cost leadership. This paper shows the role of cost management as an instrument aiding the creation and realization of company strategy.
