Poland and Lithuania have been strategic partners since 1997, when they were connected by common aims in their foreign policies: joining the NATO and the European Union. In 1997 institutional bodies came into being at different government levels. The Parliament members appointed the “Parliamentary assembly of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland and the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania”, and the Presidents of both states set up “the Consultative Committee of the Presidents of Poland and Lithuania”. The article discusses the activities of the “Council of the Cooperation between the Governments of Poland and Lithuania”, called the “Intergovernmental Council”. The author refers to the documents of the first period of the Council activity (1997-1998).
