Pluralizm współczesnego świata sztuki powoduje, że coraz powszechniejsza jest utrata wiary przez krytyków i artystów w obiektywne normy krytyki artystycznej. Przeciwnie A.C. Danto, utrzymuje on, że krytyka sztuki odkrywa znaczenia danego dzieła, a różnice interpretacji jakie pojawiają się między krytykami sztuki mogą być rozwiązane w argumentatywnym dyskursie. Utrzymuje on również, że sztuka jest przedmiotem krytyki moralnej. W eseju tym wskazuję na pewne słabości argumentu Danto. Z jednej strony Danto przyznaje, że sztuka współczesna jest "sztuką zaburzającą" (disturbatory art) zaangażowaną w moralne eksperymenty, z drugiej utrzymuje, że “sztuka nie jest uodporniona na krytykę moralną”. Nie jest jasne, czy artyści powinni podążać za zewnętrzną wobec sztuki moralnością, czy też powinni tę moralność tworzyć (czy, być może, artyści uczestniczą w stałym procesie kształtowania bieżącej interpretacji norm moralnych). Zgadzam się jednakże z generalnym przesłaniem argumentu Danto, że w sztuce współczesnej każde dzieło sztuki współtworzy kryteria krytyki artystycznej odpowiednie do własnej ewaluacji.

Pluralism of the present day art-world leads crics and artists alike to lose faith in the objective norms of art criticism. Against this background, A. C. Danto claims that art criticism discovers the meaning of the work of art, and interpretative differences among critics can be resolved by argumentative discourse. He also maintains that art is subject to moral criticism. In this essay I point out to certain weaknesses in Danto's argument. On one hand Danto condones contemporary art seen as "disturbatory art" engaged in moral experimentation while on the other hand he maintains that "art is not immune to moral criticism." It is not clear whether artists are supposed to follow some kind of external morality, or whether they are supposed to create morality (or, perhaps, artists participate in the process of constant shaping of the current interpretation of moral norms). However, I agree with general trust of Danto's argument that, in contemporary art, every art-object helps create criteria of art-criticism relevant to its evaluation.

Poniższe uwagi dotyczą różnych strategii rozumienia i traktowania dzieła sztuki. Skrótowo zostały przywołane teorie trzech wybitnych filozofów i estetyków zeszłego wieku: R. Ingardena, E. Panofsky’ego i U. Eco. Mimo głosów krytycznych co do przydatności i potrzeby stosowania pojęcia dzieła sztuki wobec najnowszych wytworów artystycznych, wydaje się jednak, że pojęcie to wciąż dobrze spełnia swoją funkcję w odniesieniu do sztuki modernistycznej, a także posiada duże znaczenie dla kultury symbolicznej.

This paper refers to different strategy of understanding and treatments of a work of art. There are mentioned three theories of R Ingarden, E. Panofsky and U. Eco, the outstanding philosophers and aestheticians of the last century. In spite of critical opinions regarding usefulness and a need of usage of notion of work of art in the face of latest artistic products, it appears however that this notion still functions well with reference to modernist art and possesses its importance for symbolic culture.

Contemporary Romanian Art in the United States1

The article discusses the recent international interest in contemporary Romanian art and its growth in market share, with a focus on the United States. The theme is followed thorough in numerous museum exhibitions, increased collector following, art fair presence, gallery representation and auction activity initially in Europe and the United States. The phenomenon is discussed both in the context of the larger international movement conducive to the contemporary art price bubble, and in that of the local socio-economic changes. My chief interest lies in the factors leading up to the entry of post 1989 Romanian art in the global arena as a manifestation of market forces in the field. The analysis follows its grass roots local emergence through non-profit institutions, individual artists, small publications, low budget galleries, as well as the lack of contribution (with few notable exceptions) of state institutions, while pointing out the national context of increasing deregulation of social support systems resulting in lack of focus on cultural manifestations. The conclusion is that the recent ascent of contemporary Romanian art (and coincidentally, the award winning contemporary Romanian cinematography) is a fortuitous convergence of various factors, among which, increased international mobility and sharing. At the same time, it is also the result of the evolution of various individual artists that pursued a form of art rooted in Romanian artistic tradition but with a focus on the symbolic figurative. The result is a personal semiotics of raising the mundane to extraordinary levels that reconfigured the anxiety of entering a new system into an unmistakable and lasting visual language.

Celem artykułu jest ukazanie roli mediów społecznościowych w kształtowaniu kultury czytelniczej współczesnych nastolatków. Problem ten został omówiony na przykładzie wybranych portali społecznościowych, które – co autorka uzasadniła i poparła przykładami – mogą być znaczącym narzędziem w edukacji kulturowo-literackiej uczniów. Badania prowadzone zarówno w naszym kraju, jak i na świecie, a także obserwacje autorki poczynione z pozycji szkolnego polonisty wskazują na rosnącą popularność internetowych mediów w życiu przede wszystkim młodych ludzi. Stanowiło to podstawę do sformułowania kilku refleksji i wniosków edukacyjnych. Dotyczą one między innymi zasadności wykorzystania potencjału mediów w procesie kształcenia kompetencji lekturowych współczesnych nastolatków.

The aim of the article is an attempt to show what role social media can play in shaping the reading culture of contemporary teenagers. This problem will be discussed on the example of selected social networks which may be a significant tool in the literacy and cultural education of students. Research conducted both in our country and in the world, as well as my observations made as a Polish language teacher indicate the growing popularity of online social networks in the lives of young people. This is the basis for formulating some – I think interesting – reflections and educational conclusions. These include, among other things, the justification for the use of the potential of the media in the process of developing the reading skills of contemporary teenagers.
