The economic analysis of the rentability of cattle breeding and milk production between 2005 and 2009 was examined on a farm in the Šumava Mts. (730 m a.s.l.) specialized on the milk production. The size of the agricultural area of the farm was 333 hectares. The summer pasture of the Czech Fleckvieh cows was practised on permanent grassland there. The economic analysis was provided on the basis of the final calculations of the total costs. The level and the evolution of the costs and the rentability of milk production were evaluated. The results, including the determinant influences and factors, were compared with the monitoring examinations of the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Information in the potato-barley and mountain production areas. The results revealed that, in comparison to the potato-barley and mountain production areas, substantially lower production intensity (lower performance) while the comparable costs and a higher intensity of the selling rate of the milk was achieved on the farm. The rentability (without subsidies) would be possible to get with a selling price of 8.50 CZK per liter of milk.
