The Cathedral Archdeaconry was in integral part of the Nitra Diocese from its renewal in the beginning of the 12th century. From the medieval period onward it consisted of a relatively small administrative area surrounding the episcopal town of Nitra. The focus of our study is primarily on artistic ornamentation, architectural peculiarities, and the specifics of parish and filial churches within the Archdeaconry, examining its inner furnishing as well as the changes that took place in the course of the first three decades of the 18th century. The Latin canonic visitation of the Cathedral Archdeaconry of Nitra Diocese from 1732 provides an interesting view on the situation of this ecclesiastical organization unit in the bishopric, namely the parishes of Branč, Jarok, Močenok, Nitra, Pohranice, and Sokolníky. The cathedral Church of St. Emeram was constituted as an autonomous organizational and economic unit at the time of the visitation.

The history of the Arch‑deanery of Hradná in the area of the Diocese of Nitra goes back to the 12th century. The study examines how the territory of the Arch‑deanery of Hradná changed in the 17th and 18th centuries in the context of major historical events. It also interprets first written evidence about ornamentation and architectural patters of selected churches in the area, based on the earliest visitation protocol by the Nitra canon Ladislav Söréni in 1714, soon after the last uprising of Francis II Rákóczi. Major changes took place especially at the Bánov estate which was owned by the Jesuit collegium in Skalica. Several churches were reconstructed in the Baroque style in the studied period.

The letter of the Bavarian episcopate addressed to Pope John IX in 900 is one of the contemporary historical sources testifying to the ninth century Christianisation in the Moravian Principality and the Principality of Nitra. Although the letter describes the existence and practice of Christianity in individual ethnic groups in a subjective way, it also provides some relevant historical information. Such is a mention of the Slavic tribe to which was East Frankish priest Viching appointed a bishop by the Pope. Writers of the letter described the tribe as a recently baptised. The description was intentional in order to supress the demands of the Diocese of Passau for the territory of the Vichingˋs Diocese of Nitra before 880. The article argues that Engelmar, the Bishop of Passau, ceased to demand the territory of the Diocese of Nitra after its foundation.
