W pierwszej części pracy zostaną omówione wybrane osiągnięcia prof. Daniela Kahnemana.

The first part of the paper briefly discusses the selected scientific achievements of Daniel Kahneman. Cognitive errors discovered by the laureate of 2002 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences are analysed, as well as their importance that goes far beyond the domain of economy. Special attention is attached to possible applications of Kahneman’s ideas in modern cognitive didactics. The second part presents the specific research methods and results obtained by the group of researchers at the Pedagogical University of Cracow. In particular, the authors focus on the research, with the use of eye-tracker SMI 1250 HZ, on students’ eyes activity during solving problems. The article describes the results of studies on the high school students declaring interest in studying subjects and their intention to become scientists. It shows significant differences between the reaction of the eyes of examined students, measured by the time of looking at the distribution of possible distractors in the eye tracking record, and their final answers. The differences in strategies of problem solving undertaken by the groups of beginners (first year students) and experts (PhD students) are also discussed.

The paper conducts the collective specification of fallacies in the perception of reality made by market participants. It is based on the Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky’s esseys and it proves that the paradigm of rationality in human behaviour is actually a purely idealistic assumption and is often not reflected in the factual decisions made by consumers. The article pointed out numerous examples of so-called heuristics and biases, which cause the wrong estimation of the probability of certain events and thus are the reason of making non-optimal choices. The studies provide the evidence that unconscious, irrational, emotional and psychological factors are crucial in decision-making situations and to make the forecasts and projections more realistic they should be taken into account in the development of econometric models, business strategies or human resources management policy.

This paper presents considerations on altruism and prosocial behaviour formulated on the basis of some experiments with the ultimatum game. In the first part it will discuss relations between expected utility theories, the characteristics of homo oeconomicus and a modern understanding of altruism. It will focus in particular on conceptual differences, indicating that we can find more than one definition of altruism in modern literature. The second part of the text will provide an overview of selected behavioural theories of prosocial behaviour. It will also present the manner in which needs, social determinants, norms, and individual psychological features affect the propensity to behave in a prosocial fashion.
