The Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of our Lady in the town of Stará Boleslav (Bohemia) was reconstructed in the second decade of the seventeenth century by two Italian architects Jacopo de Vaccani and Giovanni Maria Filippi. As there were not much money, the local priest John Christoph Kilian requested financial help on 2 February 1616 addressed to the Spanish King Philip III, aided by the Spanish Ambassador Baltasar de Zúñiga, resident in Prague. The author of this article found the correspondence about this petition in the Spanish State archive in Simancas: The original request is in Latin. A translation in Spanish and a summary in this language was made for the King, but he refused help, "because of many other churches under construction".
