For a long time, people seemed reluctant to get accustomed to e-books, the electronic equivalent of printed books. Its use seemed complicated despite being relatively easy in the electronic context, the tools necessary to its use were expensive, and there was a lack of critical mass of volumes available to make impact. However, these disadvantages are gradually being dissipated, and readers are starting to enjoy the new media, even if this new media seems more like an intermediary solution, the future developments of which cannot be foreseen. The present article wishes to deal with some of the technical aspects of electronic books. E-books undeniably bring new viewing formats to the jungle of document converting processes, and one of these formats is presented in detail.

The article concerns new forms of digital content presentation. The evolution of information technology has a big influence on creating new tools, applications and software designed for e-books. The author describes the newest technical solutions and mentions about the beginnings of electronic publishing. The most important issue is protection of documents. Digital rights management allows the publisher to control the reader. It is very controversial issue and some situations shows that it is not efficient solution. Popularity of e-books is a well known-phenomenon abroad but in Poland we can also observe increasing number of first services, bookshops and publishers who support the new form of document presentation.
