The definitions and foundations of competitiveness are discussed in the article. The author characterizes main sources of establishing enterprise competitiveness, as well as presents concepts ralated to this phenomenon. Perspectives of the development of theory and enterprise practice focused on competitiveness achievements are mentiopned as well.

This article provides an attempt to critically analyse the issue of enterprise competitiveness and indicates a necessity of applying theory approach systems for analysing this problem. The article consists of three parts. In the first part, the authoress analyses the notion 'scope of competitiveness' and its relations to the terms of efficiency and effectiveness. Part II is an introduction to the systemic model of competitiveness. The last part shortly describes four main elements of the systemic competitiveness model: competitive advantage, competitive potential, environment of organization and competitiveness management. The authoress believes that only systemic approach allows to reach an outcome, valuable from the point of view of possibilities of application in real economic life.

The constantly changing structure of market competition as well as the turbulently developing environment require new approach to create its competitiveness. Today successful enterprises have to realise that they should compete in a way that enhances rather than undercuts inter-firm cooperation. The point of the current company shape-up boom is to achieve the value that comes when the whole adds up to more than the sum of the parts. The paper is an attempt to point out the influence of inter-firm cooperation on the enterprise competitiveness.
