Goal attainment can be significantly influenced by implementation intentions, which involve detailed planning of the process and its expected outcomes. Prior research has demonstrated the positive effects of implementation intentions across various domains, emphasising their role in enhancing goal-directed behaviour. The objective is to compare two different evaluation approaches. We analysed two distinct datasets in which participants outlined their plans for achieving a particular goal. Two datasets were analysed, each containing participants’ plans for achieving a personal goal. Six independent evaluators rated the specificity of these plans using two approaches. Evaluation A assigned up to 5 points based on the presence of five predefined specificity categories: what, how, when, where, and duration, providing straightforward scoring system leading to one overall score. In contrast, Evaluation B assessed each category on a detailed scale of 0 to 2 points, offering a more detailed understanding of plan quality and leading to 5 scores, each for one category. The results indicate that while Evaluation A offers a simpler assessment focused on key components, it misses depth of plan specificity. Conversely, Evaluation B offers a more detailed perspective by assessing the quality of each category, though it introduces greater variability in evaluator judgments. The results also revealed differences in evaluator agreement, with Evaluation A showing greater consistency due to its binary categorisation, while Evaluation B allowed for more subjective interpretation of plan details. Our study highlights the importance of selecting an appropriate evaluation approach based on the specific research goals.
