W niniejszym artykule podjęto się próby scharakteryzowania europejskiego numeru alarmowego 112. W pierwszej kolejności przedstawiono potrzeby wskazujące na konieczność jego utworzenia, a także opisano genezę powstania. W dalszej części rozważań skoncentrowano się na międzynarodowej organizacji pozarządowej, która czuwa nad sprawnym powiadamianiem ratunkowym na terenie Unii Europejskiej. Ostatnia część pracy odnosi się do scharakteryzowania informacji, które przekazywane są do centrów powiadamiania ratunkowego, a także wyjaśnienia sposobu ich obiegu w Polskim systemie powiadamiania ratunkowego.

This paper attempts to characterize the European 112 emergency number. First, the needs indicating its necessity were presented, and the origin of its establishment was described. Then the discussion focuses on an international non-governmental organization that watches over efficient emergency notification in the European Union. The last part of this paper characterises the information that is transmitted to emergency notification centers, as well as explaining how it circulates in the Polish emergency notification system.
