EIOPA is one of the three of European Supervisory Authorities. It plays an active role in the pro-consumer politics in insurance business. EIOPA’s aim is to protect consumers from unfair and abusive business practices by identifying tangible risks at an early stage and to ensure that these risks are adequately tackled before fully materializing. EIOPA’s approach is to promote the orderly functioning of markets resulting in a level playing field, healthy competitive and innovative environment, increased consumer confidence and guaranteeing financial stability. EIOPA during the last years issued many important documents in which EIOPA’s view on the consumer politics was presented. This articles gives a short summary of the most important actions of the European Supervision Authority in this field.

EIOPA jest jednym z trzech Urzędów Nadzoru Europejskiego. Działalność EIOPA pełni ważną funkcję w kształtowaniu polityki prokonsumenckiej w działalności ubezpieczeniowej. Celem EIOPA jest ochrona konsumentów przez nieuczciwymi praktykami przedsiębiorców, a środkiem w uzyskaniu tego celu jest wczesna identyfikacja istniejących ryzyk i podejmowanie działań zapobiegawczych jeszcze zanim te ryzyka w pełni się zmaterializują. EIOPA promuje prawidłowo funkcjonujący rynek ubezpieczeniowy, w którym zachowana jest równowaga kontraktowa stron, uczciwa konkurencja, akceptacja dla innowacyjności, wysokie zaufanie konsumentów oraz gwarancja stabilności finansowej. EIOPA w ciągu ostatnich lat wydała wiele dokumentów, w których zaprezentowała swoje stanowisko w zakresie ochrony konsumentów. Celem artykułu jest podsumowanie tej działalności EIOPA.
