The article compares the views of the Polish philosopher of civilisation, Feliks Koneczny with the American political philosopher and political scientist, Francis Fukuyama. Koneczny is a conservative, while Fukuyama is a liberal, but there are great similarities in their concepts of the world’s major civilisations. Their views on national identity are also similar. The author considers Koneczny’s concept of pluralism of civilisations compared to Fukuyama’s concept of unification of the world by liberal democracy as the main difference between the two scholars.

Artykuł porównuje poglądy polskiego filozofa cywilizacji Feliksa Konecznego z amerykańskim filozofem politycznym i politologiem Francisem Fukuyamą. Koneczny jest konserwatystą, a Fukuyama liberałem, jednak istnieją duże podobieństwa w ich koncepcjach głównych cywilizacji świata. Zbliżone są także ich poglądy na tożsamość narodową. Za główną różnicę między oboma badaczami autor uznaje koncepcję pluralizmu cywilizacji Konecznego w porównaniu z koncepcję Fukuyamy – unifikacji świata przez liberalną demokrację.

Celem artykułu jest próba odpowiedzi na pytanie czego na temat natury ludzkiej może nauczyć nas obserwacja różnorodności kultur i sposobów życia ludzi. Rozważane są takie aspekty ludzkiego życia jak wiedza, szeroko pojęta moralność i współpraca które, jak pokazują badania, mają tendencję do znacznej międzykulturowej zmienności, ale także wykazują pewien stopień podobieństwa pomiędzy kulturami. W dociekaniach odnoszę się do najnowszych badań psychologii rozwojowej. Artykuł kończą wnioski własne dotyczące natury ludzkiej w kontekście różnorodności oraz próba oceny tego jak koncepcja natury ludzkiej F. Fukuyamy (2004) wytrzymuje próbę różnorodności kulturowej.

In the article I attempt to address the question what cultural diversity can teach us about human nature. Knowledge, morality and cooperation are that aspects of human life that tend to show both cultural diversity and similarity between cultures in certain respects. In the text the newest research in developmental psychology is invoked. Finally, in the article I try to asses how F. Fukuyama’s (2004) view on human nature withstand the test of cultural diversity and propose my own conclusions regarding human nature.

The human entered the twenty-first century with great technological progress. The concept of transhumanism is currently a very important and popular one. Genetic engineering, neurophar-macology, auto-evolution of the human species are the chief topics in modern science. Ethics dictate human reflection on the development of biotechnology. Francis Fukuyama writes about what may be the limits and consequences of the development of biotechnology. Because transhumanism brings with it not only benefits, but also a serious threat to nature and human beings.
