The connection between Pieśni dziada sokalskiego w kordonie cesarskim by Franciszek Karpiński (1741–1825) with the folklore is not as intense as in the opinions of the 20th century researchers. Although the author follows the linguistic features of the folk songs, he does not strongly relates to the main characteristics of the genre, like the connection between sacrum and profanum, the macabre and emotional descriptions. The use of allegory and philosophical issues creates a distance between Pieśni dziada sokalskiego w kordonie cesarskim and the folklore as well as other oral texts. The composition aspires to link with the themes of the higher culture, for example the Golden Age.

Jan Zieliński’s collection of sketches „Magiczne oświecenie” (“Magical Enlightenment”, 2022) is characterised by originality, especially in the sphere of art interpretation. The originality is jointly formed by the author’s vast erudition that manifests, inter alia, in an impressive variety (and profusion) of topics and problems. Zieliński’s exceptional knowledge is also revealed in hundreds of footnotes, many a time utterly comprehensive. The subject matter of the collection includes not only Polish issues, but also phenomena of European nature. Focusing on Enlightenment, the researcher in his numerous sketches goes beyond this cultural formation. “Magical Enlightenment” is worth its reading.

From the beginning, literature occupied an important place in “Vilnius Daily” (so-called scholar magazine’s pages). The editors of the journal (including Jan and Jędrzej Śniadecki, Euzebiusz Słowacki, Filip Nereusz Golański, Leon Borowski, Ernest Groddeck, Kazimierz Kontrym) who were recruited from the circle of the University of Vilnius are alumni in “the age of lights”. Being heirs to the enlightenment ideals of aesthetics, they appreciated the literary output of their immediate predecessors. These preferences are clearly visible in the literary content of “Vilnius Daily”’, obviously adhering to classical and sentimental tastes. Without a doubt Stanisław Trembecki enjoyed the highest popularity among the Stanislawow creators in those pages. We also encounter there the works of Elżbieta Drużbacka, Ignacy Krasicki, Franciszek Karpiński and Ludwik Kropiński. The Vilnius magazine, appreciating their creative achievements, showed thereby the continuation of eighteen-century literary tradition.
