La fraternite dans „Fratelli tutti” et dans la spiritualite franciscaine. Points de rencontre

This article presents some points of convergence between the Franciscan perspective and the encyclical Fratelli tutti on fraternity. The Pope teaches that « it was the evangelical witness of St. Francis, with his school of thought, that gave the term fraternity the meaning it then preserved over the centuries. » The first part of the article focuses on how Francis of Assisi and the Franciscan tradition have developed the concept of fraternity. The second part studies it on the encyclical Fratelli tutti. It is emphasized that both the Franciscan tradition and Fratelli tutti offer a Trinitarian and Christological perspective that goes beyond the usual way of understanding it in our society.

Cet article présente quelques points de convergence entre la perspective franciscaine et l’encyclique Fratelli tutti sur la fraternité. Le pape enseigne que « c’est le témoignage évangélique de saint François, avec son école de pensée, qui a donné au terme de fraternité le sens qu’il a ensuite conservé au cours des siècles “. La première partie de l’article se concentre sur la façon dont François d’Assise et la tradition franciscaine ont développé le concept de fraternité. La seconde partie l’étudie sur l’encyclique Fratelli tutti. Il est souligné que tant la tradition franciscaine que Fratelli tutti offrent une perspective trinitaire et christologique qui va au-delà de la manière habituelle de la comprendre dans notre société.

This article presents Francis of Assisi as an inspiring model of the universal fraternity proposed by the encyclical Fratelli tutti. The Pope asserts that «it was the evangelical witness of St. Francis, with his school of thought, that gave the term fraternity the meaning it then preserved over the centuries». Universal fraternity requires the harmonious development of our four fundamental relationships, something which is evident in both Francis of Assisi(part 1) and the encyclical Fratelli tutti (part 2). Inspired by saint Francis, the Pope invites us to welcome all human beings as brothers and sisters and thus to dream together «as a singlehuman family».

Cet article présente François d’Assise comme modèle d’inspiration de la fraternité universelle proposée dans l’encyclique Fratelli tutti. Le pape affirme que « le témoignage évangélique de saint François, avec son école de pensée, a donné au concept de fraternité le sens qu’il a conservé au fil des siècles ». La fraternité universelle exige le développement harmonieux de nos quatre relations fondamentales, ce qui apparaît clairement tant dans François d’Assise (première partie) que dans l’encyclique Fratelli tutti (deuxième partie). Inspiré par saint François, le pape nous invite à accueillir tous les hommes comme des frères et des sœurs et ainsi à rêver ensemble « comme une seule famille humaine ».

The author analyses Pope Francis' encyclical Fratelli tutti and shows how the ideas of fraternity and social friendship are close to an ecumenical attitude. The papal description of the contemporary crisis is consistent with sociological analyses: the experience of loneliness and uncertainty in social relations, the domination of the economic dimension of globalization and the transformation of social communication - these are the features of the current system, whose dysfunctionality was revealed by the Covid-19 pandemic. The implementation of the new idea proposed by Francis - the development of fraternity and social friendship - will be possible, among other things, by building a culture of encounter and the courage of dialogue that is practiced in the ecumenical movement.

Autor analizuje encyklikę Fratelli tutti papieża Franciszka i pokazuje, jak idee braterstwa i przyjaźni społecznej bliskie są postawie ekumenicznej. Papieski opis współczesnego kryzysu jest zgodny z analizami socjologicznymi: doświadczenie samotności i niepewności w relacjach społecznych, dominacja ekonomicznego wymiaru globalizacji i przemiany komunikacji społecznej – to cechy obecnego systemu, których dysfunkcjonalność ujawniła pandemia Covid-19. Realizacja nowej idei proponowanej przez Franciszka – rozwijania braterstwa i przyjaźni społecznej – będzie możliwa między innymi dzięki budowaniu kultury spotkania i odwagi dialogu, jakie praktykowane są w ruchu ekumenicznym.

A deeply personalistic, Christian vision of love is the foundation and basis of human life. True love is a personal relationship, it has its source in the relationship between God and man and is based on mutual giving and receiving. It determines the right direction for relationships and encounters with other people. If love is the center of a person’s life and at the same time indicates the specificity of his vocation and mission, it is impossible to imagine that this fundamental life perspective would not find its proper expression in relation to social life. This love should be expressed in many social attitudes, above all in those that are considered the fundamental principles of social life. Love cannot be reduced to beautiful words or declarations but must be manifested in specific actions and attitudes. In everyday social life, it is important to be able to put the principles of love into practice. This reflection discusses, in light of Pope Francis’ encyclical Fratelli tutti, the issue of love in three aspects: love of God, love of neighbor and social love.

Chrześcijańska wizja miłości, głęboko personalistyczna, stanowi fundament oraz podstawę życia człowieka. Prawdziwa miłość jest relacją osobową, ma swoje źródło w relacji między Bogiem a człowiekiem i opiera się na wzajemnym obdarowywaniu i przyjmowaniu. Wyznacza prawidłowy kierunek relacji oraz spotkań z drugim człowiekiem. Jeśli miłość stanowi centrum życia człowieka, a zarazem wskazuje na specyfikę jego powołania i posłannictwa, to nie sposób sobie wyobrazić, żeby ta fundamentalna perspektywa życiowa nie znalazła właściwego wyrazu w odniesieniu do życia społecznego. Ta miłość powinna wyrażać się w wielu postawach społecznych, nade wszystko w tych, które uznaje się za fundamentalne zasady życia społecznego. Miłość nie może sprowadzać się tylko do pięknych słów czy deklaracji, ale musi przejawiać się ona w konkretnych czynach oraz postawach. W codziennym życiu społecznym ważna jest umiejętność wcielania w życie zasad miłości. W niniejszej refleksji omówiono – w świetle encykliki Fratelli tutti papieża Franciszka – zagadnienie miłości w trzech aspektach: miłość Boga, miłość bliźniego oraz miłość społeczna.

Opierając się na godności i nieodłącznej relacyjnej naturze osoby ludzkiej, autor ten podkreśla znaczenie relacji braterskich i rodzinnych w życiu społecznym i polityce. Zbyt wiele marzeń o integracji politycznej zostało ostatnio zburzonych, budując w zamian nowe mury agre­sywnego nacjonalizmu i izolacjonizmu. W tej sytuacji ludzie na całym świecie odczuwają potrzebę dobrej polityki i „potężnego zastrzyku ducha rodzinnego” (AL 183). W rzeczywistości nie może być powszechnego braterstwa bez dobrej polityki, która „opiera się na prawie i na lojalnym dialogu między stronami” (FT 196).

Based on the dignity and intrinsic sociability of the human person, this article asserts the importance of fraternity and family relationships in social life and politics. Too many dreams about political integration have been shattered lately, while new walls of aggressive nationalism and isola­tionism are being built. In this situation, people everywhere feel the need for good politics and for “a healthy injection of family spirit.” (AL 183) However, there can be no universal fraternity without good politics “built upon respect for law and frank dialogue between individuals.” (FT 196)
