The main subject of the following article is the private equity / venture capital market, which has a significant impact on the growth of innovativeness in Europe. This sector has developed differently, according to the country, especially because they did not avoid severe market turbulence in recent years. Thus, the main aim of this analysis is the determination of the structure of PE/VC market in Europe, at the breakthrough of first and second decade of the XXI century. In addition, this piece of writing also indicates to the most important changes in the development process of this source of capital, that occurred lately. The study is based on the analysis of the statistics published in EVCA Yearbooks.

Venture capital and private equity funds are a new instrument for financing the development of young and innovative companies. Their functioning is affected by many factors especially form the public markets, but despite many changes, these funds continue to invest in young innovative companies, which are characterized by above-average investment risk rewarded unparalleled rate of return. It is characterized by a huge dispersion encountered in other investments called alternative or public. Activity funds is cyclical, so the purpose of this paper is to analyze the influence of public markets on venture capital activity.

Financing of innovative business activities at early stages of their development is an extremely important condition of their growth. Start-ups, facing limited access to the formal capital market, look for an alternative. This is the informal market of capital investors, venture capital funds, and increasingly popular crowdfunding. Dezinwestycja jest ostatnim etapem procesu inwestycyjnego funduszy venture capital. Moment w jakim jest dokonywana zależy od wielu czynników w tym od sentymentu rynku oraz poziomu wycen spółek publicznych. Celem artykułu jest analiza wpływu poziomu stóp zwrotu oraz wskaźników rynku kapitałowego, w tym głównie wskaźnika P/E na poziom i liczbę dezinwestycji dokonywanych przez fundusze private equity oraz venture capital na rynku polskim w latach 1998-2012.
