Stranger in a New Guise: Some Remarks on the Reception of Foreign Language Literature in 17th Century Silesia Reception literature made a relevant contribution to the development of historically belated German literature to the national literature in the German language in the 17th century. The example of Martin Opitz, who had been the first to establish German as the language of poetry, was soon followed by other, not only Silesian, poets. Silesian poet Benjamin Neukirch, whose work involves original, purely creative forms, as well as translations and critical texts, has particular relevance to the process of emancipation of German literature in view of the polarity of his artistic activity.

Die Rezeptionsliteratur leistete einen relevanten Beitrag zur Entwicklung der historisch verspäteten deutschen Literatur zu einer Nationalliteratur in deutscher Sprache im 17. Jahrhundert. Dem Beispiel von Martin Opitz, der sich als erster für die Etablierung des Deutschen als Dichtungssprache eingesetzt hatte, folgten bald andere, nicht nur schlesische Dichter. Eine besondere Relevanz für den Prozess der Emanzipation der deutschen Literatur gewinnt im Hinblick auf die Polarität seiner künstlerischen Tätigkeit der schlesische Dichter Benjamin Neukirch, in dessen Werk originelle, rein schöpferische Formen, wie auch Übersetzungen und kritische Texte einhergehen.
