Artykuł przedstawia teologię naturalną w ujęciu angielskiego matematyka i fizyka George’a Gabriela Stokesa (1819-1903). W Teologii naturalnej Stokes przedstawił się jako zwolennik naturalizmu. Głównym celem dzieła jest wyjaśnienie egzystencji Boga i ustalenie idealnego systemu norm moralnych w oparciu o ludzki intelekt. Stokes bronił kreacjonizmu, przedstawiając swoim zdaniem jeden z najsilniejszych argumentów na rzecz idei projektu. Jest nim struktura naszego układu słonecznego oraz budowa naszej planety, które umożliwiły pojawienie się życia na Ziemi. Możemy zaliczyć poglądy Stokesa do kreacjonizmu ewolucjonistycznego, ponieważ akceptuje on osiągnięcia Darwina, jednocześnie nie rezygnując z idei projektu. Zdaniem Stokesa ewolucjonizm wcale nie niszczy kreacjonizmu, lecz jedynie wymusza pewne jego modyfikacje. Nawet przy założeniu słuszności ewolucjonizmu pozostaje miejsce dla istoty zdolnej do zaprojektowania i stworzenia świata.

The article presents an account of natural theology formulated by English mathematician and physicist George Gabriel Stokes (1819-1903). In his Natural Theology Stokes presented himself as a proponent of naturalism. The main purpose of that work was explaining the existence of God and establishing of ideal system of moral norms based on human intellect. Stokes defended creationism presenting one of the strongest – in his opinion – design arguments. It is the structure of our solar system and of our planet which enabled emergence of life on earth. Because he accepts achievements of Darwin, while not rejecting the idea of design, we can regard the views of Stokes as evolutionary creationism. According to Stokes, theory of evolution did not destroy creationism but forced only certain modifications of it. Even assuming the validity of evolutionary theory there remains a place for existence of a being able to design and create the world.
