During the time of the European Referendum and elections to the European par-liament, the politicians of the League of Polish Families presented their views in the newspaper “Opoka w Kraju” among other publications. It was established and run by one of the most prominent politicians of the party – Maciej Giertych. On the basis of content analysis it must be stressed that the most characteristic feature of the views presented in “Opoka w Kraju” is a variation of the philosophy of Feliks Koneczny. According to his ideas, Germany represents the Byzantine civilization, whilst Poland belongs to the Latin civilization. Koneczny also believed that understanding between these civilizations is not possible. Maciej Giertych tried to adjust this theory to modern times. In his opinion the European Union is, in fact, ruled by Germany, therefore ac-cession to the organisation is harmful for Poland. Giertych also presented his ideas in other publications.

This article analyses political ideas of Jedrzej Giertych presented in 1929 -1939 period, when he was one of leading proponents of the ‘young’ fraction of the Polish National Party, populary known as Endecja. Giertych’s writings were shown as part of the degeneration process of endecian political thought, early endecian political realism was substituted by fantasies and conspiracy theories, taken from fringe to the core of endecian ideology. Giertych blamed democracy and liberalism as results of ‘Jewish -freemasonic conspiracy’, to which belonged also the Commmunist International. The rise of Italian Fascism, German hitlerism and Franco’s rebelion in Spain were for Giertych sources of hope as a part of the chain of ‘nationalist revolutions’ passed through Europe. Giertych promoted a nationalists revolution in Poland and also demanded total expulsion of Jews form Poland with confiscating all Jewish property. His idea of ‘national government’ was very unclear, certeinly he expected one -party endecian rule, excluding free elections. In economic policy ‘national government’ ought to prefer small bussines and actively decentralized industrial production. It is argued that generally, Giertych’s political writings pave the way to the transformation of the Endecian ideology – from political realism to antimodern utopia.

The „Opoka w Kraju” journal, edited by professor Maciej Giertych, pays a lot of attention to the issues of Western civilization. In this approach, the professor is faithful to the Felix Koneczny concepts, who considers the national idea to be a highly positive element of development of the given culture in Latin civilization. This position is in opposition to that of Arnold Joseph Toynbee, who sees in this concept signs of the decline of Western civilization. National movements, both in the interwar period and now, have been in favor of democracy and the strong role of the Catholic Church in Poland as the mainstay of Latin civilization. At the same time, they strongly fought against all manifestations of leadership in political life. The main goal of the article is to present the principles of Latin civilization that they most often implemented in their activities, the national movements in Poland.
