The article concerns the formation of the local identity of Gorzów’s citizens. As a city in the so called Polish “Recovered Territories”, Gorzów constantly struggles with its history, interrupted in 1945. During the first post-war period, the new society, formed by a rapid migration was not very eager to accept a socially and culturally unfamiliar environment. In order to adjust, people were “domesticating” and “appropriating” the city. This attitude harmonized with the state policy, but did not promote positive identification with the new home. After the transformation of 1989, a new, more open policy toward former Gorzów’s citizens and the city’s German heritage has emerged. However, it appears that ordinary citizens do not consider recent political initiatives as the most essential for the city’s identity and they regard Gorzów to be rather unattractive and a place to which it is difficult to ascribe any fixed local identity system.

Tradycja to bardzo ważny element kultury akademickiej, dlatego w artykule ukazano, w jaki sposób jest ona podtrzymywana w Akademii im. Jakuba z Paradyża. W opracowaniu znalazły się także odniesienia do historii szkolnictwa wyższego w wymiarze krajowym jak i szerszym. W zakresie omawianego zagadnienia skupiono się na historycznych uwarunkowaniach kształtujących strukturę oraz symbolikę władz uczelni, znakach Akademii, uroczystościach uczelnianych, zabytkowej architekturze znajdującej się w zasobach infrastruktury AJP oraz jej patronach.

Tradition is a very important element of academic culture; therefore, the paper presents how it is upheld in Jacob of Paradies University. It also contains references to the history of higher education in the nationwide as well as broader context. The text offers considerations focusing on historical determinants shaping the organization and symbols of the University’s authorities, its mark, celebrations as well as its historic architecture and patrons.

Subregion periodycznej komunikacji medialnej stanowi istotny składnik krajowego systemu medialnego. W polskich warunkach powstanie subregionów medialnych można wiązać z decyzją o podziale administracyjnym kraju na 49 województw. Decyzja ta pozwoliła na rozwój lokalnej prasy na tych obszarach, które do tej pory uzależnione były od mediów regionalnych. Równie ważną rolę w budowie i rozwoju subregionów medialnych odegrała aktywność lokalnych społeczności, od której to wychodziły najważniejsze inicjatywy na rynku mediów. Te dwa czynniki, a więc działalność lokalnych elit kulturalnych oraz wsparcie władz doprowadziły do wytworzenia m.in. gorzowskiego subregionu periodycznej komunikacji medialnej, którego pierwsza faza rozwoju przypadła na lata 1975–1989.

A subregion of periodical media communication comprises an important part of every national media system. In Poland, the creation of such subregions can be linked to the decision about the administrative division of the country into 49 voyvodships. This decision sparked the development of the local press in those territories that until then had been dependent on the regional media. Equally important role in the creating and development of media subregions was played by the activity of local residents who were responsible for the most important initiatives in the local media market. These two elements, that is the activity of local cultural elites and the support of the authorities led to the creating of Gorzów subregion of periodical communication whose first phase of development took place in the years 1975–1989.

Polska lokalna w prasie centralnej ostatniej dekady PRL

The article attempts to answer the question about the degree of information in the Polish central press of various events in the province. By this term it is understood those regions that remained away from the center of the leading political, social or cultural events in the country. To achieve that goal a research was conducted on the texts on the Gorzow Province printed in three leading dailes at that time, “Słowo Powszechne”, “Gromada – Rolnik Polski” and “Trybuna Ludu”. The content analysis proved that it those texts dominated economic (urban as well as agricultural industry) and political issues. Of marginal meaning were articles on history, sport and tourism and environment protection. The banality of the reports as well as domination of domestic politics in the central press made it impossible for a great number of readers to learn more about the Gorzow Province.

Artykuł stara się odpowiedzieć na pytanie dotyczące stopnia informowania przez prasę centralną o wydarzeniach rozgrywanych na prowincji. Pod tym pojęciem rozumie się te regiony, które pozostawały poza centrum wiodących wydarzeń politycznych, społecznych czy kulturalnych w kraju. W tym celu zbadano teksty dotyczące woj. gorzowskiego, drukowane na łamach trzech wiodących wówczas dzienników, czyli „Słowa Powszechnego”, „Gromady – Rolnika Polskiego” i „Trybuny Ludu”. Analiza zawartości wykazała, iż w relacjach dominowały zagadnienia gospodarcze (przemysł miejski i rolniczy) i polityczne. Marginalnie natomiast traktowano takie tematy jak historia regionu, sport i turystyka oraz ochrona środowiska. Sztampowość relacji, a także zdominowanie prasy centralnej przez politykę wewnętrzną kraju uniemożliwiło lepsze poznanie woj. gorzowskiego przez szersze grono czytelników

Political culture is a broad and capacious term. For the purposes of this article I have acknowledged that it is a set of views, attitudes and beliefs prevalent in a given community. Analyzing from this angle the behavior of the inhabitants of the land of Brandenburgia and the former Gorzowskie Voyvodship, I have tried to demonstrate common features, as well as differences between the communities of the border region. Both communities had to cope with a difficult period of system transformation, which in addition to benefits, posed a lot of problems.
